Message 1580 - Posted 25 Jan 2006 3:31:11 UTC

I have joined the project, but cannot get a (first) work unit to process.

The first time BOINC attempted to get a unit - I received a message \"No work - committed to other platforms.\"

The next time it attempted to get a work unit I received the message \"No work sent - reached daily quota of 1 results\".

This has been happening for about 1.5 days.

How do I get a first unit to process?

Running Win XP Pro SP2+, Boinc version 5.2.13.

    Thanks

With patience - it will give you one now and then - but there\'s a database problem that makes the scheduler act up for weeks already. Check the threads about wrong venue replies and stuff like that. The problem seems to be analyzed but the there\'s a ressource shortage - lack of Adam (the guy in charge here, he seems to be away for a while) - so it isn\'t fixed yet.

hm ... the platform problem should be solved. What\'s the error message your BOINC client shows?

I just recently joined the project and am having the same problem. It is not an error message just that I am apparently not requesting new work. here is my recent log which includes an update and a reset...

Can you post the first twenty messages or so from when BOINC starts up? Most likely the problem is that your system is considered overcommitted, or you\'re running another project that has accumulated a large debt.

If you\'re brave, you can fix it like this :

                  - stop BOINC (that\'s always required when you modify BOINC files)

                  - open the file client_state.xml with a text(!) editor like notepad, vi or whatever. Don\'t use a text processing program like word, wordpad or so

                  - clear all debit values so they look like this :

                  <short_term_debt>0.000000</short_term_debt>
                  <long_term_debt>0.000000</long_term_debt>

Those two values exist for each project that your PC is attached to so you might have to modify several places.

                  - save the file

                  - restart BOINC

The calibrating BOINC client optimized by Trux has a command line option to clear those debit values btw..

I am using a patched version of the Trux BOINC client that clears the debits on each restart without the need for command line stuff. If someone is interested, I can post the link.

The patch would work with all BOINC versions but one cannot mix the Trux client into a non-Trux version of course. If you need it for a specific version of the BOINC client, I can apply the patch there and upload the file.

Thanks that was it. I didn\'t notice that I got another CPDN WU.
