I\'m hoping there is some system in place to allow recompense for lost time/credits for impossible work units..

Yesterday, I returned this work unit which bombed at 206hours. I left it running as it is a two liner (I think) that went to 50% at about 80h and I thought it would be okay. Next time I check the computer, I have a cpu time exceeded message. :(

I also had this wu at ~84h and 20%, which I have now aborted as it obviously wouldn\'t finish in time.

Is there any form of recompense for the ~300hours/~1600credits of lost time?

On a happier note, I have completed this one which gives a quorom; as long as the results agree. :)

Same with this. Only difference is, that the first 50% took about 2 hours, the remaining 160+ hours the host crunched the second line. I hope, that the credits will be granted, because those \"CPU time exceeded\" errors are errors on the projects side and not on the client.

I don’t think there’s anything the project can do about those; I believe the CPU-time error is a ‘failsafe’ in the BOINC client itself. I had a couple of those in the summer, running v1.x of the search app; they weren’t granted any credit when the ‘cleanup’ scripts were run in September, so I don’t think they qualify for post facto grants here.

The time constraints are set by the project when generating the WUs. So the errors are triggered by wrong estimations of runtime. Granting credits for those is not rocket science (and it has been done by e.g. Rosetta all the time until they implemented their own watchdog).

Just thought I\'d bump this thread to see if any decision has been made by the project admin.

As I recall, there were quite a few who fell foul of the time-limit and (I guess) have lost a lot of time/credit that they\'d like to see recognition of. I know I would.
