    Well... Maybe not every single time, bit the large majority of times.

    I\'m having a problem. Every connect, a new host. Doesn\'t matter what host or OS. The Linux boxes are running v5.4.9, as that was the recommended version when I installed them. The Windows boxes are either v5.8.7 or 5.9.9. All of the hosts, except the 2 Linux boxes, as they\'re running the old \"problem WUs, and I can\'t restart them, are showing the \"not assigned yet\" part. Even though the ID does show in the XML files.

    02/01/2007 08:30:26 PM|SZTAKI Desktop Grid|URL: http://szdg.lpds.sztaki.hu/szdg/; Computer ID: not assigned yet; location: work; project prefs: default

    Also, maybe it\'s related, I have 2 older PCs running Linux. Different names, and processors. But, when I try to merge them, it also thinks the other host is part of the one I\'m trying to merge. So, to example: PC1 and PC2. I try to merge the entries for PC1, and PC2 also shows in the merge list. Same for PC2, PC1 is in the list.

      This is a bug in the server backend.

      There\'s a fix posted over at LHC. If I remember when I wander over that way later I\'ll dig it up and post it here.

      It involves editing XML files so not necessarily for the faint of heart....

      eh... easier to find it now.

      As a workaround, you can fix this on the client side by editing client_state.xml.

      First, exit BOINC while editing the file.

      Look for:

      <hostid>0</hostid>

      ...inside LHC\'s section of the file.

      That 0 should be a machine number. Edit it to be the highest host number for that machine. Then, merge all the dupes for that box. Then, restart BOINC.

      You may get one more dupe after that, but it should stop the creation of hundreds of them. Merge any lingering hosts, and you\'re done.

        OK. Seems to be working on one host here, after editting the client_state.xml file. The others are busy with the LONG problem WUS, and I\'ll edit them when they\'re finished, so as to not mess up more results.

        The other problem is still there, though. 2 machines that think they\'re the same.

          Can\'t help with the second problem.

          That\'s strange.

          My problem is usually two instances of the same machine that won\'t merge.

            This bug is solved by the server software upgrade. Sorry for the inconvenience...and also please merge your hosts so we can get rid of the wrong entries as soon as possible

              About number of hosts :
              BoincStats/BoincSynergy : 53593 hosts
              Here on the homepage : 29663

              Many people are gone or/and don\'t care how many hosts they have attached here.

              Thanks to the old bug, the server created sometimes more 100 hosts/day !

              When you see an user with 916 or 1896 or 1005 hosts in the stats, do you think that he/she has really all these hosts attached here ?

              Number hosts

              Merging the hosts with a script is probably the only one solution to get a coherent number of hosts with the number of members.

              See here what XtremLabs did :
              We have executed a script to automatically merge hosts. Hosts have been merged only if they have got exactly the same characteristics, the same owner, times do not overlaps, and the removed host has not been active for a long time period.

                According BoincStats,
                last day :
                new users : 0 -> 10572
                news hosts : 897 ! -> 54,511
