My wish? That the unit that \"timed out\" after 386000 seconds last August get some credit!

... and at least one of us has a massive unit which still has an estimated 300 hours to go. Even if I turn everything else off I don\'t expect to finish until about the 22nd September.

I need not have bothered to continue! \"Maximum CPU time exceeded\" with this unit after over 100 wasted hours. That\'s a lot of frustration as well as loss of a great deal of credits.
Until you can honestly sort yourself out, I\'m afraid it\'s goodbye and good riddance from me.

A new Linux version will be released very soon.

All well and good but it seems the Linux version is working ok and we need a Windows version which matches it. Or is it the plan to make the new Linux version 6 times slower?

The news on the front page says new longer work units should be available today.

Er... No it doesn\'t - not quite! To most people yesterday\'s tomorrow means today but somehow the Hungarian word which is translated into English as \"tomorrow\" seems to mean something a little less definite. Today may have been the intention but we are dealing with alternate dimensions here!
Be patient - I\'m sure everything will be sorted \"soon\". The project workers have gone through a horrid time and are trying to complete several month\'s work in a few days.
In the meantime, there are lots of other projects you can lend your computer to.

It\'s strange for me, that the last jobs were sent out more than a week ago and there are still a lot pending...

Could be from people who only occasionally connect to the web (those who are most keen to maintain a large cache). Maybe you can expect a lot of last-minute reporting as people find out you are in business again.

The work per CPU limit sucks, and maybe needs to be changed. A better system would let you download a batch of work, once completed you could download another batch without a limit. Faster computer get all the work they need, and the project gets more work done faster.

This is the system which BOINC is designed to operate under and it works very well on my (one computer) system (when the servers at the \"far end\" are working!).
But you do need to be connected to the net all the time, or reasonably often during the day. How then do you then keep those people happy who may only connect at longer time intervals - it is claimed (from some with computer farms) that you have to have a large cache if you can only connect once a week!
Ho hum!

I can only agree with ckohler3. I might even go further by suggesting that some means be derived so that those who have lots of units \"timed out\" can have their allocation reduced: they obviously can\'t cope!
I was one of the fortunate ones who received a few units on Saturday (17th June). Of nine units received, eight were reissues of units which had originally gone to others who had not been able to do anything with them; these people often had long average turnaround times (7 days or more).
Cut the cache size to 50 units for everyone and the work will get done quicker in the end.

1. Does anybody know how the name given to the work unit is derived? There seems to be no comparison between successive downloaded units.
2. Why do the names have to be so BIG! 38 hexadecimal characters seems like overkill: it is noticable, in the BOINC manager \"Tasks\" page that Sztaki names are longer than any of my other projects (No, I don\'t have ALL the other projects attached!).
