Thank you very much for the information. It looks quite interesting.

You\'re welcome :)

Hello,

I must confess that I understand nothing at all and I wonder even if this is Sztaki related. If it is, what are we supposed to do or to know?

Robert

It\'s related to users of SZTAKI and other BOINC projects. BOS is a service that makes it possible to get an overview of the different BOINC projects schedulers online status. Find more info here

I\'ve spent the last few days checking everything was working correctly, and it seems so. This is what happened Sunday:

Around 10 am local time, the database drive stalled once again, and I shut down the system, knowing I was going to correct things later.

Around 3 pm local time, I had moved everything to my work area, and wanted to start up to test everything would work fine when attempting to do the drive switch. But now the database drive box didn\'t start at all - no fan, no light, nothing. The other one seemed to start as usual. I thought it might be the power supply, so I switch to the other power supply - this time the box started, but I really didn\'t like the sound, so I turned it off quickly. The other box didn\'t like the power supply from the database drive box.

So, now I had two drives that I didn\'t know if I could even get working. Anyway, with two drives to switch and only two drives to replace them, I could wave goodbye to my RAID plans. The only hope I had was that it was the external boxes that were failing, not the hard drives themselves. And it turned out to be just that. So after I had copied the database drive successfully, I made the sites available again while copying the other drives - before moving things back where they belong.

For those who haven\'t read the BOS RSS feed, the BOS message boards or the ESEA message boards, here some info:

The hard drive containing the databases has been giving trouble these last few days. It is close to give up. I have two hard drives which was planned to be used as a replacement for the boot/system drive, but this is more important right now. So this weekend I will spend some time replacing the database drive. I will try to build a RAID with these two new hard drives, but this may take some time, as it is the first RAID I\'ve ever made. Keeping all data/programs completely intact during the process is an extra task, and may make it take a bit longer, as I don\'t have a third clean hard drive to save things on. But I\'ll do my best to do this as fast as possible. If all things go wrong I have back-ups.

So, just so you know, the BOS site and services and the ESEA site will be down for a while this weekend.

maybe estimated time to completion set on server should be increased? The bunch of wu\'s I got is estimated to have a duration of 2 hours and twenty minutes, so that is the time used to figure out how much I should download - not good if it turns out they\'re all 40 hour wu\'s ;)

Ok, the forementioned wu has crunched for 1 day and 5 and a half hours, progress has increased to 0.400% (yeeeeiiii :D) and haha to completion has increased to 2 days 1 hour and 47 minutes. So I might let it run to finish - although temporarily suspended to let the QMC wu finish before it\'s deadline

Seems I\'ve stumpled upon such a wu as well: 36180

20 hours and 40 minutes processed, 0.200 percent done and 1 day 17 hours remaining ;) Or rather, according to my calculations, 10,333 hours remaining ;)

[added]That would be more than 430 days :D[/added]

I have now decided to cancel all the WUs that are expected to run for more than 672 hours = 4 weeks, either if boinc 4.45 says so or if I figure it out myself for WUs running under boinc 5.2.13.

Even if the result is accepted by Adam, he will never get 3 valid results without exceeding the maximum number of total results (= 8). So my effort would be useless to science. Maybe I\'m mistaken, but I have never read a straightforward answer from Adam to a post asking about WUs exceeding 1000 hours.

If these WUs are really necessary to crunch, they should be reissued with an appropriate deadline. CPDN gives a deadline of 19 months for WUs that need 3000 hours\' crunching time.

I have to admit that I\'m thinking about dropping this wu. It\'s still at 0.200% and I was already in earliest-deadline-first mode when BOINC got around to this wu. I have one other wu that can\'t take much delay (a QMC wu) - it\'s not urgent with the others as they are all cpdn+ wu\'s.

ESEA (Earth Space Exploration Agency) is looking for more Agency Scientists.

It is obvious that research is abundant, and our supercomputer can\'t keep up with the current amount of processors. So, the Agency is looking for more staff and the processors that come with this additional staff.

Currently the supercomputer is operating in the mid 40 GFlop range, and we need at least 100 for the time being.

There are an unlimited amount of positions vacant - just plug-in your processors.

Just aborted a bunch past deadline. Curious about a finished wu that was returned too late - if it\'s going to be used.
